Host a Cornhole Tournament: Halloween Edition

Want a Halloween activity that’s fun for all ages? Set up a Halloween Cornhole tournament in the backyard, or the garage, or the school gym! Whatever space you have available will work, as long as it’s regulation Cornhole-size. Here is how to put together your Halloween themed Cornhole tournament.

Planning Your Halloween Themed Cornhole Tournament

We don’t recommend that everyone get a Halloween-themed Cornhole board and bags. But if you are into that sort of thing, contact us and we can create a custom Cornhole board just for you!

Decor

We do recommend that you dress up your favorite Cornhole board with spiderwebs, orange and purple string lights, or other festive accessories. Make sure to surround your board with decorations like skulls and bones, or a life-size scarecrow, or anything else you have nearby that fits the theme! To make things more challenging try playing Cornhole in a room only lit by glow sticks or introduce a fog machine.

Performance Enhancing Halloween Drinks

Let’s be honest, some of us become better Cornhole players after a few drinks. If you want tournament attendees to perform at an optimum level, we suggest providing some of these Halloween themed alcoholic drinks!

Dark and Stormy Pumpkin Punchbowl

Hollow out a medium or large pumpkin, fill 1/3 with chilled ginger beer, add 2 ounces dark rum for every 3 ounces of ginger beer, fill the rest of the way with lime slices and ice (add dry ice for a smoke effect but be sure no one tries to eat the dry ice, it can cause serious injury if it contacts skin).

Dark Lemonade

Pour lemonade over ice, add 1-2 shots of vodka (plain or flavored), then mix in ¼ teaspoon activated charcoal to turn the drink black as a moonless night! If your Halloween Cornhole tournament is taking place around children, just leave out the vodka when serving the littles and they can get into the spirit too!

Dark Moon Cocktail

In a large pitcher combine 2 cups cold brew coffee, ½ cup coffee liquor, ½ cup dark rum, 1 can cola. Pour this mix over ice and add a splash of heavy cream just before serving.

Halloween Themed Snacks

We’re fans of the classics, like chips, snack mix, and all the “extra” Halloween candy you definitely “bought for the neighborhood kids” but if you want to go the extra mile, here are a couple of our favorite Halloween recipes:

Caramel Apple Slices

Like caramel apples, but in a more manageable size! Slice apples into 6-8 slices, put each slice on a popsicle stick, dip in melted caramel and leave them on wax paper until the caramel is set. Once the caramel has firmed up, decorate with melted chocolate, crushed pretzels, candy bits and/or shredded coconut.

Baked Brie

For something savory, nothing beats baked brie if you want to really class up your Halloween Cornhole tournament! Place 1 round brie on a sheet of puff pastry, top the brie with chopped walnuts and brown sugar, fold the puff pastry over the top and press to seal. Brush the pastry with egg wash and bake on a parchment-lined baking sheet at 400 degrees until the pastry is cooked and brie is heated through (about 20 minutes). Serve with crackers.

Themed Tournament

Some final touches for the actual tournament: make your brackets Halloween-themed! This is easy to do by sourcing Halloween clipart online or using templates included in your word processing program. If you would like a generic, printable bracket, click here.

We also suggest you consider giving out Halloween-themed prizes to wrap things up with a spooktacular finish. Prizes could include a bag of candy, a Halloween chalice DIY-ed into a trophy, and/or a skull-shaped bottle of liquor can all do the trick!

A Halloween Cornhole tournament can be the start of a new fall tradition that your family and friends will love!
