Planning Your Backyard BBQ
With warm weather quickly approaching, it’s time to start planning for backyard festivities. However, being the guest at someone else’s party is much easier than being the host as there is quite a bit of planning involved. This is why we thought of a few simple ways you can minimize the amount of work and ensure that you and your guests have the best time possible. Save yourself all of the fancy dinner get-ups and special utensils you will only use once and implement some of these fun ideas for your spring/summer backyard BBQ.
Don’t Stress Over the Food
The food at parties is often the most difficult thing to prepare for. This is why we recommend saving yourself some stress and going for a potluck this year. Sending out a quick text or email to all the expected guests promising them an enticing main course and drinks, then letting them know that they should also bring side dishes and drinks to share is sure to cut down on a lot of the pre-party hassles and costs.
There’s no shame in asking for help and nobody expects you to be the hero of the party, especially if you’re expecting a larger crowd. Even if it’s just a bag of chips or a two-liter, any thing they can contribute is highly suggested. After all, this is what friends are for.
Who Has the Aux Cord?
In this day and age, you can’t have a backyard BBQ without music. There are certain songs that must be played during the summer and if you really want your guests to let loose, those songs must be played. Put together an eclectic playlist full of your favorite songs, find a portable speaker, and push play. If you can’t think of many songs, ask friends for recommendations or search through pre-made playlists on any of your favorite music streaming services. The music doesn’t have to be perfect, as long as the music makes your guests smile and have a good time, it will do the trick. You can always choose to theme your backyard BBQ music with 80’s hits, one hit wonders, or fun summer time songs.
Bring On the Games
Everyone goes to a party to have fun and nothing says fun more than backyard games. Cornhole and horseshoes tend to be the crowd favorites, but you certainly don’t have to limit yourself. There are so many games to play with your Cornhole board that even if your crowd are not die hard Cornhole fans, you can find a game that they like. Bocce ball, croquet, and badminton are just as easy to setup and provides fun for adults and children alike, but there are plenty of other obscure yard games you can play to liven up the party. If there’s a game laid out for people to play, they will play it. Try a themed Cornhole board with a fun image to start some conversation and personality to your game play!
Don’t Stress the Rest
You only need three things to have a great backyard BBQ this summer: good food, good music, and a good time. So, if you were on the fence about hosting this year’s BBQ in your backyard, don’t let it stress you out. If all else fails, you can always resort to a more festive approach and include a theme to get guests excited about your party. Baseball and Tiki themes are the most popular themes during the summer, but there are plenty of them to choose from. Don’t forget to keep an eye on the weather throughout the week, as well. Everyone will understand if you want to reschedule due to inclement weather. The rest of the party will take care of itself.
