From superheroes to ponies to princesses, you might be thinking little kids have dibs on all the best party themes—but we have four fun party ideas for adults that will make you reconsider your thinking! And if you don’t like any of these, no one will stop you from having a superhero-themed party instead: you’re a grown up, do what you want.
Party Ideas for Adults That Are Actually Fun
1. Brunch After Dark
Anyone who makes a habit of having breakfast for dinner knows what’s up. Brunch after dark is a slightly more upscale version of that. Instead of scrambled eggs or bowls of sugary cereal, set up a waffle bar and a punch bowl of mimosas or serve loaded omelets and let guests to build their own Bloody Marys!
Decorations should include outdoor string lights, and pastel balloons and streamers. Tie donuts onto ribbons and suspend them from a rope stretched between two trees or across a backyard gazebo, and see who can eat their donut the fastest without it falling onto the ground (no hands!). Cornhole is of course lots of fun- just add lights for nighttime play and yummy brunch drinks.
2. Go Bowling
If you’re looking for a fun party idea for adults but you don’t have a lot of space in your home, go bowling. This retro location for parties has been popular since the 50s and 60s—and it’s not going anywhere thanks to 80s and 90s nostalgia. Organize teams or have a free-for-all, just don’t forget the nachos, chili dogs and a beer or two to add to the retro appeal!
3. Host an “Olympics”
From Beer Pong to Kings to Flip Cup to Quarters, there’s no shortage of alcohol-themed games and you can set up quite the boozy Olympics by playing all of them! Both horseshoes and cornhole have rules that can be modified to incorporate drinking (or not—we don’t judge either way, we just want you to have fun playing games with friends!). For the closing ceremony, award small prizes like a fancy bottle opener or a small gift card, and then invite all the guests to partake in the traditional striking of the pinata. Why include a pinata? Because pinatas are fun! (Why do we even have to explain this? Who are you to question the inclusion of a pinata?)
4. Music Themed
Choose a decade, band or musician and theme your party around that! A Jimmy Buffett party is a great way to take your guests to “Margaritaville,” along with a “Cheeseburger in Paradise”—Hawaiian shirts are optional, but encouraged. A Motley Crue party will mean your friends “Don’t Go Away Mad.” Throw a Madonna party and “Express Yourself.” Kick back in 70s style with your very own disco inferno! You can have a lot of fun finding games to coordinate with different musical themes, and as an added bonus you can have guests vote on the best dressed for the theme!
Choose one of these party ideas for adults for your next party – and don’t forget your cornhole set! Add some guests, and you’ll have a fun and memorable experience for your friends and family, ready for any occasion!
